Alleged is a romantic drama based on events occurring behind the scenes and outside the courtroom of the famous Scopes “Monkey Trial” of 1925.
When a teacher is arrested in Tennessee for trying to teach evolution in 1925, a young ambitious reporter must choose whether to take advice from his sweetheart or the notorious columnist when it comes to his approach to the story.
The story follows Charles Anderson (played by Nathan West), a talented young local reporter who feels trapped by his small-town circumstances. He views the monumental legal battle—where substitute high school teacher John T. Scopes is prosecuted for teaching human evolution—as his ultimate ticket into big-league journalism.
Charles manages to insert himself into the action and becomes the protégé of H.L. Mencken, America’s highly influential and deeply cynical columnist. As the trial escalates, Charles finds himself torn between the strict moral principles of his fiancée, Rose Williams, and the increasingly deceptive journalistic compromises he must make to impress his ambitious mentor.

11 Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. Matthew 5:11,12
